October 10, 2007
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Please be advised that in our last negotiating session on Tuesday, October 9th, the League of American Theatres and Producers submitted their “final offer” for Local One’s consideration in the making of a new collective bargaining agreement. Local One, shortly thereafter, countered with its’ own “final offer.”
As a result, there are no scheduled meetings at this time and Local One should stand on alert should we need to defend ourselves and exercise our legal rights if and when the League takes action against us by locking us out.
I am urging all Brother and Sister members employed at the affected Broadway theatres to contact the Union office by calling 646-459-1916 or going on line at www.iatselocalone.org prior to work each day to receive updated information and instructions on how the Union will proceed on a day to day basis.
Please be further advised that I am calling a meeting exclusively for all of our Broadway employed Brother and Sister members on Saturday, October 13th at 4:45 p.m. at The Sheraton Hotel, 811 7th Ave (between 52nd & 53rd St), N. Y. Ballroom, 3rd Fl.
I urge you all to attend this meeting whatever the situation may be at that time. Updated information, both given and received, as well as a discussion of the implementation of our plans to defend ourselves in the event of a lockout will be the objective of our meeting.
In closing, please thank our fellow Union Brother and Sister members for their understanding and support at this time. Please remind them that Local One has never promoted a labor dispute in this negotiation but will never be unprepared or unwilling to fight for them or ourselves now or in the future for the protection of us all.
In Solidarity,
James J. Claffey, Jr., President
