The union representing stagehands at about 20 Broadway productions has reached a tentative three-year contract with the League of American Theatres and Producers.
Local 1 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees says the terms of the new agreement are similar to those in a three-year deal reached last month with the Nederlander Organization, which controls nine Broadway theaters. Under that agreement, the stagehands will get 3% annual raises and a total 7.5% pension fund contribution.
Late Sunday, the union voted to authorize a strike after working without a new contract since Sept. 1. The new agreement covers between 200 to 250 stagehands at about 20 productions, including "Wonderful Town" and "700 Sundays."
In total, Local 1 represents nearly 3,000 Broadway crew members, including electricians, carpenters, and audio and lighting technicians.
