Vice President William Walters
Willie is the fourth generation of Walters in Local One. In December of 1969,
Willie began his theatrical career, as a stagehand, at Radio City Music Hall.
After five years at the Music Hall, he moved on and worked in almost every
venue in Local One's jurisdiction.
In May of 1998, he was elected a Trustee of Local One.
In addition to various committee assignments he is also a Safety Manager of
the union.
At the May 2001 election, he was elected Vice President of the Local.
In January 2002, Willie was elected a member of the American Society of Safety
Engineers. In September of 2003, Willie was honored by receiving a Proclamation
from the Council of the City of New York for “His outstanding service
to New York City and to the Theatrical Community,” which was presented
to him by NYC Councilwoman Helen Sears. He also received a Plaque from
the West Side McManus Democratic Association for “His untiring support,
efforts, loyalty and dedication to the members of Local One and the people
of New York City.’
In May of 2004, Willie was elected to a second term as Vice President.
He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association. He serves on
the Executive Board of the New York Labor History Association. He is also
a delegate
to the New York City Central Labor Council. In May 2005, Manhattan Borough
President C. Virginia Fields appointed Willie to Community Board 4 which
covers Chelsea and Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen neighborhoods on the Westside.
